With the prospect of no commute and no face-to-face interactions with colleagues, working from home has changed the morning routines of many people. While scrolling through Instagram, it won’t take you long to find numerous influencers, writers, editors and general fashion-forward individuals admitting to staying in pajamas or loungewear all day, not wearing a shred of makeup, discarding their bra and not washing their hair.
We are all dealing with working from home in different ways however, in an attempt to try and retain some semblance of normality, maybe we should not completely abandon our beauty routines or what we wear for work. We need to adapt and try to discover what our new normal is. Trying to have some sort of routine will help us ride out this wave of uncertainty.
With that spirit in mind, now is the perfect time to give your hair a break from the heat and go au naturel. As someone who has let their hair air dry for over 2 years, (yes this “look” was born out of laziness to start), I thought it would be helpful to create a routine for achieving beautiful air-dried hair.
Do not brush your hair once wet - it removes all texture and can make your hair look flat and greasy. Brush it out before you get in the shower so it's detangled.
Shampoo and condition your hair as normal. Make sure you apply a decent amount of conditioner as this will help the drying process.
Towel dry your hair by squeezing out the moisture. Don't rub your hair as it will discourage your natural hair texture.
While your hair is still quite wet, apply organic hair oil (I use this one). Run it through just the ends of your hair. Part your hair how you would normally and with any stray ends that keep sticking out, just twist your hair lightly so it neatly falls into place.
By air-drying your hair you are allowing your natural texture to come through more, depending on the quality and color of your hair.
By following these steps, I’ve learned to embrace my thick and wavy locks of hair. I now appreciate how much healthier my hair looks and feels by going au naturel.
