A Hudson Valley Lookbook

By Julia Le

Less than a hundred miles away from home, we found ourselves transported to a place that felt much farther than the short drive it took from New York City. Along unfamiliar roads, we were tuned in to the stillness of the air - the landscape steeped in a quietness that rarely comforted our neighborhoods. It was the sort of quiet that stayed, uninterrupted by the cranky honks of impatient drivers - the air free from the lingering haze of Midtown cigarettes.

Instead, we were welcomed by a steady wash of wind, which waved a constant hush through the forest, and carried the sweet scent of dew and rain across our noses. The days were less planned - spent exploring the town, and learning more about the community’s connection to nature and animals. We spent the afternoons drifting into conversation and laughter, simply enjoying every moment as they came. When nightfall came, there were hardly any lights around. Looking out into the darkness, it felt as if we could have been the only ones on earth.

If it wasn’t so cloudy, perhaps we could have even seen the stars.
